When it came to choosing my major, I chose mechatronics engineering as I always felt fascinated by the science behind robots. I used to watch lots of documentaries on how they work. By joining the robotics and autonomous system (RAS) research group, I definitely have a chance to be practically involved in this interesting field.

Robots have always been an interest of mine and recently it has developed into something achievable. Mechatronics has paved the way for me to work in such a field and with the RAS lab, there will definitely be outcomes that satisfy my dream. What's intriguing about robots for me is the giant ones such as giant buckle wheel excavators although these are controlled and not robots, but maybe one day.

As a mechatronics engineer I see that in the coming years, robots will be used in all life fields. I'm really interested in taking place in such an experience and sharing ideas to improve the performance of robots, and I found the opportunity here in RAS-lab to achieve my goal.

For me it was a great dream to make a robot that has the ability to think and behave like humans. The best part of robotics is getting something to work using the efforts and skills of many different people . In robotics, No one person is able to do all the work to make a robot operate therefore it is essential to work with other creative people. It's always interesting to me to see all the different skills required to make our robots work and so RAS lab is a good place to achieve my dream.

I graduated from American diploma with an average score. I went to some countries and planning to travel for other countries  to understand more about humanity to be able to transfer pure science to something that can benefit the humanity. That’s why I joined Engineering at GUC ( German University in Cairo) . In my third year, I joined the RAS lab at the GUC. We worked on how we can make robots communicate with each other and exceed a certain task or a job.

When I was at high school, I watched many videos about robotics. I liked this field, so I chose the faculty of engineering and materials science the mechatronics department. It is good feeling to make a robot acting like a human brain. Recently I joined the robotics and autonomous system (RAS) research group at the German University in Cairo. It is a good place to work on projects in a team and gain experience in the field of mobile robots.

About my research interests: I'm the kind of guy who likes to research in Automated Robotics and develop them since they are categorized in a great field of study and development and the RAS lab was a suitable place for me to practice my interest and develop it!

Peter Raafat
Interested in doing researches in the field of modeling and controlling electro-mechanical systems like Quad-rotors and mobile robots.

Since I was a child, inventing things has been a great aspect of my life, trial after trial, project after project, I always had either a simple project or a useless one as a result. After I joined Mechatronics, I found my passion and goal, but these weren't enough to satisfy my hunger for invention. Until I was introduced to the RAS (robotics and autonomous system) Lab, that’s when I saw heaven and knew that this place will be the sacred heaven for me.
